ಸಿರಿಧಾನ್ಯ ಗೀತೆ | Millet Kannada Song
The Karnataka Department of Agriculture (KSDA) has sponsored a special song about millets created for the upcoming Millets and Organic International Trade Fair 2024 to showcase and celebrate millets. As the second largest state in a rain-fed area after Rajasthan, Karnataka frequently faces drought conditions. To help overcome this, the KSDA is promoting the cultivation of hardy, drought-resistant millet crops along with organic farming practices.
Our song traces the diversity of nutritious millets that have been grown in the region for generations - from found, white, and little millets to kodo, barnyard, foxtail, proso, and browntop millets. We showcase the traditional methods used by local farmers to sow, grow, harvest, and process these climate-resilient grains. The lyrics highlight how millet can form the basis of food security and health for families while also preserving water and soil resources.
We hope this special composition connects listeners to millets' cultural heritage while increasing awareness of them as smart food choices that align farming to ecological principles. Through promoting millets, organic approaches, and appropriate technology, we aim to build sustainable livelihoods for smallholder farms even while preserving our lands for future generations.
